“…for anyone who couldn’t make it out you missed a hell of a time”
It was pure hell. Those folks did well to miss it. You may like profanity, lewd comments, hung overchefs, drunk emcees and champagne mouth squirting contests but I like most I suspect do not.
Please read Ron Eade’s column fo a more realistic viewpoint.

To each their own. I found it to be a very entertaining day / evening with great food and fun. But there is some truth to the stereotype that some of Ottawa is a bit uptight so I’m sure this wasn’t for every one. A little fun that may be on the crude side at times doesn’t make the event ‘hell’. Not every event in Ottawa needs to be stuffy.
But this city will always be at odds. Those who enjoy sex-a-palooza with those who find it trashy. Those who think Bluesfest is great and those who whine to turn down the music. Those who think that leaving during the 3rd period of a hockey game is lame with those who want to get home at an earlier hour.
I’m sorry the evening wasn’t what you were hoping for – but I know a great many people who disagree with you and Mr. Eade. I am happy though that you came out to support an Ottawa food event, even if it wasn’t to your taste and that you voiced your concerns here. Hopefully some other people will want to come forward and give their thoughts on it too!

Interesting. I didn’t attend. But, it seems like (from having read both your coverage, Jodi, and from reading Ron Eade’s perspective as well as the comments) that the event would have benefitted in some respects from a logistics team. On the other hand, a logistics team probably wouldn’t have allowed the disorder that made it fun for many.
What is interesting is how Ron has pitted himself against food bloggers, and sees them as two distinct classes. I don’t agree with that, and I don’t expect that it will serve him well.
Good work, Jodi, on the coverage of the event.

Thank you Katlin! While I agree that the event perhaps could have benefited from being rated PG – and letting that be known to the general public beforehand, I think that censoring the participants would have taken away a lot of what made it different from anything else in the city.

Loved your post Jodi! There was indeed a lot of tongue-in-cheek, something not everyone would appreciate.
Kaitlin makes an excellent point about balance.
Still, the event demonstrated our local culinary talent can be matched with some of Canada’s best. The reception was rather successful.
I even saw Stephen Beckta and Play’s sommelier Grayson McDiarmid come in as attendees, mingle with the crowd, and talk to the people in line for Chefs Anthony Walsh and Michael Moffatt’s station. They graciously posed for photos with other attendees who recognized them!
As always, it was a pleasure working with you.

Yes, thank God mankind invented bacon in all its delicious forms!! For a first time event, I think it was great. It was different, it was interesting, the food was great, the wine pairings were lovely and it was a chance to learn more about some of the chefs we have in Canada and the food they cook. Especially as a first time event, there are definitely improvements that should be made and I’m sure they will be. But all things considered, it was a fun day!
