I’ve been a bit of a shitty blogger recently – BUT I’ve been away. I’m here to make it up to you with some very exciting news about an event that is coming to the National Arts Centre on October 19th that is sure to please your inner wine lover.
A blurry glass of wine at Red Sky – a 56th floor outdoor, rooftop bar in Bangkok. Posts to come!
Savvy Company has invited over 20 Niagara wineries to take a short break from harvest season to come down to Ottawa so that we may taste their wines! There is also the opportunity to purchase (which is always a wonderful opportunity since many of the vintages are not available for purchase from anyone but the winery itself). You’ll get to sample over 50 wines while they meet grape growers, winemakers and winery owners.
Normal ticket price is $60 – today is the last chance for the early bird price of $55. BUT you can also snag $10 off regular price if you use this link to purchase and the discount code: SIMPLYFRESH.
I’ve also got a pair of tickets to give away! Just comment on this post letting me know your favorite wine. It can be a type or a specific bottle. Don’t forget to leave your email address so that I can contact you if you are the winner! I’ll do a random draw for the tickets Friday October 12 at noon.
Participating wineries include:
13th Street Winery
Angels Gate Winery
Aure Wines
Calamus Estate Winery
Cave Spring Cellars
Creekside Estate Winery
De Sousa Wine Cellars
Di Profio Wines
Fielding Estates Winery
Flat Rock Cellars
Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery

Cellars of Distinction
Peninsula Ridge Estates Winery
Rockway Glen Golf Course & Estate Winery

I used to be all red wine…. now I am all white. Especially love the Kim Crawford or Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. These wines really help us survive a 1.5 year old and 5 year old who refuse to stay seated at dinner time…

I usually go for reds, but I’m a big fan of viognier, not too flowery though, I think I like a bit of mineral in my wine. I don’t have a favourite bottle offhand, but I once had a glass of a Condrieu two years ago that knocked me out. Exquisite.

I LOVE Moscato – any thing moscato is good with me! I just moved to Ottawa from Alberta and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to go to an event like this – I’m a HUGE foodie and Wino and the wines you guys get here (Niagara Region) are so different from the ones we get out west and I’m just dying to try them out…..This would be a great chance to do it. As a student, not much opportunity arises unless it is the right…um…$….cough…cough….haha so being able to attend an event like this would be so great! Also, I’m itching to get in to the food/wine scene here in my new city! Good Luck to All!

Oh wine! Sadly yes few of Canada’s best wines don’t make it out of there local areas. I was in Victoria this past spring and was delighted with Burrowing Owls Merlot one of the best reds I have had in Canada. (I still dream of it!)
